Text Box: About geepy games

Fed up with the usual suspects at Christmas and not liking the ethos of the games available currently, we set out to create an alternative board game that people like ourselves might want to play. That is, people who are interested in social justice and human rights.

We wanted to create a game that would unashamedly challenge the current culture of domination by the few and the individualism it promotes.

Democracy was the result of that development. To begin with we never imagined anything beyond simply creating the game, but when we had created it, we realised that perhaps it was something other people might be interested in, and we began to see the educational value in the game. Democracy is now available to buy from the Democracy Board Game website.

And we don’t intend to stop there! Once this is achieved, it is our intention to develop other games that challenge and change ideas, and inspire hope for a better world.

Having developed Democracy, we began to imagine what if we could sell the game and use the money to promote human rights and social justice in community projects.

We work in community development currently, and saw an opportunity to provide free supports to community projects that were attempting to address injustice and disadvantage.

Could we really do both? Invent and develop games which provide a different perspective on the world, and provide practical supports to community projects. Why not?

What if the community projects could in turn help us to develop ideas for new games and for new community supports?

And so GEEPY was born. It’s different, it’s unusual, and it’s definitely ‘alternative’, but sure isn’t that the point. If we really want to make a difference, if we really want to change the world, are we not going to need alternatives?
